With the generous support of Bryan Super Walmart, Paradowski Law will once again give away 100 new bikes to deserving children in our community. Smiling faces and Christmas cheer are what we’re after. Although Christmas Bikes for Kids is on its 15th year, its beginning traces back almost 20 years when Jeff Paradowski was contacted by a Bryan elementary school teacher about a few students who were not expected to receive any gifts that year. We jumped at the opportunity to purchase bicycles at Bryan Super Walmart to give the children. It felt so good, we continued to buy more bikes every year. One year, Larry Beavers, the manager of the Bryan Super Wal-Mart, approached Jeff and after hearing about the project offered to help in future years. Every year since then, Bryan Super Wal-Mart has given Paradowski Law a discounted price for the bicycles, assembled all the bikes, stored them, and helped staff the event in the store’s parking lot.
“It’s just a great thing,” Jeff says about the event. “It’s been good for our office, our community and for my own family. You really can’t understand or appreciate how much need is out there. For some of these kids, the bicycle may be the only thing they get. I’ve seen kids come to the giveaway wearing no shoes.”
The children who receive bikes are selected from the applications we receive from throughout the area. Each application is carefully screened. The bike giveaway has taken off with more and more people wanting to help, and it is such a joy to share the excitement with so many kids each year. Soon we hope to incorporate Christmas Bikes for Kids into a non-profit organization to ensure it lives on for many years.
