Did your crash happen in or near an intersection with a red light or traffic signal camera?
You need to act quickly to capture the video from the city’s traffic engineering department because your crash was likely captured on video. You will notice in many cities and towns, including our own College Station, Texas, that cameras are placed at intersections on traffic signals and utility poles. These cameras are typically continuously recording, and any captured event will be lost after a period of time (i.e., 24-72 hours). Thus, it’s important to immediately request and obtain the captured video from the appropriate office or agency that controls these cameras. Further, many businesses have surveillance cameras mounted at or near their front doors or the front of their buildings and many times these cameras capture crashes and events that occur on the street near the front of the business. These systems too are usually recording over themselves after so many hours or days have elapsed. It’s important to contact the business early to inquire whether its surveillance camera captured your crash.
