2018 was another successful year for our Christmas Bikes for Kids giveaway program. For the 14th year, our law firm gave away 100 new bikes to deserving young boys and girls in our community. With the generous support of our partners, Bryan Super Walmart, Shoe Angels, and Brooke and Andy Harrington, there were lots of young smiles and Christmas cheer to go around as the kids and their families were treated to sausage treats, hot chocolate as well as a new pair of shoes and a new riding helmet.
Christmas Bikes for Kids began about 20 years ago when we were contacted by a Bryan elementary school principal who asked for help for a handful of students who were not expecting to get any gifts that year. We jumped at the opportunity and purchased bicycles at Bryan Super Walmart to deliver to the school children. We returned each year with more bikes before we decided to formally launch Christmas Bikes for Kids. With the help of Bryan Super Walmart and Larry Beavers, the store’s manager, we embarked on something big in order to reach more kids throughout the community. What a joy it’s been to share the excitement with so many kids each year.
The program has taken off with more and more people wanting to help. Soon we will incorporate Christmas Bikes for Kids into a non-profit organization to ensure it lives on for many years to come.
It’s neat to see everybody come together. I think a lot of people in the community just want to do something.
